Actually, it's even more absurd now, if we go with this 'all linked fandoms are in if they are under 750 works, all characters included'. Because now the Doctor and Luke and Leia and Spock are actually eligible under the rules.

Is this really yuletide? Really?

Just wait until the fanfic/fanart discussion, they're probably going to allow even more things in.

IDK. It's weird that a challenge based on exclusivity is about stretching to include the most possible things. I guess it's because the exclusivity makes it What the Cool Kids Do.

I will be over in the corner with my book fandoms.

Mmm yes. I'll keep requesting in ultra-small mostly-book fandoms and offering in ultra-small fandoms (my largest last year was 29 fics on AO3), because the odds on matching with someone else who thinks about yuletide the same way as I do seem much greater.

Also, comics fandoms make my head hurt from the sound of all those canons. But I'm aware that's my problem.

Couldn't they say that those characters have to stay within the parameters of the book/etc that is nominated? So if 'Book Title X' has the Doctor in it, you can request to see more of what he does in the story but you can't ask for him to be in a whole new adventure. If that makes sense?

TBH I'm from the other side of the argument here, but I agree with you.

The whole argument hinges on the questions that the mods aren't even asking. What makes a separate fandom and how should that be handled in terms of eligibility, instead of trying to address it by making either a lower works limit or an additional character limit.

In terms of what makes a separate fandom comics would probably be less of a problem than tie-ins.
