New Yuletide rules

(Anonymous)
http://yuletide-admin.livejournal.com/170216.html

Tl;dr:
- Eligibility: Fewer than total of 1,000 fics on both AO3 and FFN (cross-posted stories won't count)
- Nominations: 3 fandoms (fire up your dentists)
- Requests: 3-6 fandoms
- Offers: 4-10 fandoms
- Future posts will discuss rules for RPF, tie-ins/spin-offs/blah blah blah; book series; fanfic and fanart

Jenn "expect[s] everyone to try and be considerate of the other participants in the discussion. Swearing at people or calling them names will not be tolerated. Threads may be frozen if the discussion gets inappropriately nasty." Replying "noted" to perfectly reasonable comments is still presumably okay.

The rules are so simple and sensitive.

...I can't wait to see how much people can wank over them and whine about their fandom being ineligible.

Re: New Yuletide rules

correction: cross-posted stories will count towards the total. The mods aren't going to be checking if there are duplicates or not. Otherwise, that seems to sum it up.

Re: New Yuletide rules

That makes sense. I could see duplicate-checking being an express trip to burnout. I'm glad they said up front that they won't be checking.

Someone's already complaining mightily about the cut-off numbers being cumulative, and how many reposts there are. My question is, isn't this a huge improvement, say, for fandoms that *only* exist on AO3, who were always disadvantaged vs ffn? Whose numbers have now jumped from 250 to 1000? Or have I misunderstood all along and those fandoms could always have pleaded their case?

Re: New Yuletide rules

(Anonymous)
I don't think you've misunderstood anything.

Some fandoms are suddenly eligible, and some fandoms are suddenly ineligible. I assume the people who are complaining are in the latter fandoms.

Re: New Yuletide rules

(Anonymous)
Ahh gehayi, yes Yuletide will conform itself to your exact specifications if you complain enough because you are just that special.

Re: New Yuletide rules

I'm surprised she had a shortlist of five yet doesn't want to ask anyone else to nominate things for her. Nominations allowances haven't been as high as 5 for quite a while.

Re: New Yuletide rules

(Anonymous)
Yeah, that "I don't want to impose on anyone (but I still want to have all my nominations)" does seem odd to me. But it's like either get over your personal issues and ask people with extra slots to nominate things for you/keep an eye on the nominations brainstorming post or get a dentist like the rest of us mortals if you can't imagine Yuletide without all of these fandoms.

Re: New Yuletide rules

But then she might have to do something other than whine about everything.

I love that there are already multiple people saying they would be nominating those extra special totes rare fandoms she wants. I wonder if she'll respond to them. But then, as I said, that would require her to do something that isn't complaining.

Re: New Yuletide rules

Haha, silly me! Of course Yuletide is making the mods feel bad about not accommodating her by whining, you're right!

She'll probably ignore them so she can hold onto her "Yuletide doesn't work exactly as I need it to" schtick.

Re: New Yuletide rules

(Anonymous)
I'm annoyed at her acting like it's such a burden for her to maybe not nominate all five of her fandoms, when at least one of them she hasn't actually bothered to participate in at all, such as by reading the fic already on AO3 or joining in on meta conversations about it. But she just has to nominate it, you guys!!!

Re: New Yuletide rules

So it looks on the surface like they're trying to simplify things. That's good. But we haven't touched on the actual problem fandoms yet, so who knows.

It's interesting that they're just going to ignore other archives. I can think of several huge fandoms that are suddenly eligible - but they're non-English language fandoms, and let's be honest, they're fairly invisible to most yuletide participants anyway so it won't make much difference if they're included.
