New Yuletide rules

(Anonymous)
http://yuletide-admin.livejournal.com/170216.html

Tl;dr:
- Eligibility: Fewer than total of 1,000 fics on both AO3 and FFN (cross-posted stories won't count)
- Nominations: 3 fandoms (fire up your dentists)
- Requests: 3-6 fandoms
- Offers: 4-10 fandoms
- Future posts will discuss rules for RPF, tie-ins/spin-offs/blah blah blah; book series; fanfic and fanart

Jenn "expect[s] everyone to try and be considerate of the other participants in the discussion. Swearing at people or calling them names will not be tolerated. Threads may be frozen if the discussion gets inappropriately nasty." Replying "noted" to perfectly reasonable comments is still presumably okay.

Re: New Yuletide rules

(Anonymous)
The rules are so simple and sensitive.

...I can't wait to see how much people can wank over them and whine about their fandom being ineligible.

Why is this comm such a target for spambots?

Another mark in the 'why we should move to dreamwidth' column tbh.

I care even less for DW than I care for spam tbh.

Nominations Discusion Post - RPF fandoms

(Anonymous)
http://yuletide-admin.livejournal.com/170459.html

No wank yet, but god do I hope they come up with something straight-forward.

Re: Nominations Discusion Post - RPF fandoms

(Anonymous)
I'm getting the sense that Aja is trying to be a mod without actually being one. Has she even requested RPF for Yuletide? No, liking RPF outside of Yuletide doesn't count.

The Related Fandoms post - what's your dog in this fight?

(Anonymous)
It's not up yet. But it's definitely going to be the wankiest post. So who has an opinion on Sherlock adaptations, or comics, or Rihannsu, or Final Fantasy, or whatever?

Re: The Related Fandoms post - what's your dog in this fight?

(Anonymous)
They better not say popular character can't get in. I'm nomming Cloud and Terra for Dissidia: Final Fantasy and I don't want them to say that Cloud has waaaaay too many fics to his name already.

wow. spam so very much.

discussion?

Re: http://yuletide-admin.livejournal.com/170742.html

(Anonymous)
I don't have a dog in this fight, so I'm hoping for wank. Also too drunk rn to actually read any of the comments because I can't get through the first sentence or so.

MOD

(Anonymous)
Do you need any volunteers to help keep up with spam cleanup, I'm sure I'm not the only one willing to help out when we're getting spammed by bots.

Re: MOD

(Anonymous)
Seconded.

is now on for all comments, due to spam!

Thanks!!

requests in poor spirit

(Anonymous)
just how many from last year WERE there?

Any Clint/Coulson requests spotted in the wild?

Re: requests in poor spirit

(Anonymous)
There were at least two, here's a discussion thread: http://yuletide-coal.livejournal.com/5313.html?thread=8760769#t8760769

One of the assigned writers showed up a couple times to complain (understandably!) about it:

Those Are Not Rare Fandoms

(Anonymous)
So Yuletide is becoming a rare character exchange - anyone else see this happening?

When we're including things like Doctor Who and Trek novels and Star Wars EU - just because they're only nominating characters like Thrawn... Sorry, nope, those are the opposite of small fandoms. Star Wars and Doctor Who and Star Trek? Come on.

Thrawn and Madame Vastra and whatever Romulans might be rare, sure, but they still shouldn't be in yuletide.

*chinhands*

It's nice to see the other side of the argument come out of the woodwork...

So what's the deal with the 750 limit?

(Anonymous)
Mods seem dead set on this 750 special limit on linked fandoms. General consensus says everything should be the same, and having a different limit is just going to create extra work for the mods. Only thing I can figure is that there's one particular fandom they want to ban?

Re: So what's the deal with the 750 limit?

(Anonymous)
That, or it's just an arbitrary number they're using to sort of punish people who like all these spin-off fandoms that make things difficult for everybody.

Although I like your thing too. Yuletide conspiracies are my fave.

Conspiracy Theory Material Ahoy

(Anonymous)
It's probably just some wrangler being an idiot, but the timing of someone merging the live-action Sailor Moon (was eligible for certain chars last year, might be eligible with new rules this year) into the anime is pretty fucking funny.

Already separated back out.

THIS JUST IN

(Anonymous)
Optional Details are Optional - Except When It's Clint/Coulson!

"More specifically, there are many cases in which writer offers canon, requester asks for canon, requester says "it must have ponies and a vore scene", writer says "!!", and the mods tell them "optional details are optional". This happens, it sucks, ODAO. We are talking about the (possibly) more avoidable scenario in which someone says, "Thanks for offering Hawkeye! I ship Clint/Coulson.""

Personally I would have assumed ODAO applies there as well but the mods are behaving as though it doesn't and that's why the convoluted rules are absolutely necessary, to prevent people from being forced, forced I say, to write megapairings.

What do you mean, this just in? That comment's been up for days.

What happened to the Books/Fanfic/Fanart Post?

(Anonymous)
Weren't they supposed to do a post on Books, Fanfic, and Fanart on the 30th?

Re: What happened to the Books/Fanfic/Fanart Post?

(Anonymous)
Yeah, I'm waiting for it... It's the one where I have a lot to say/argue, depending on what they end up writing. So I'd rather not miss it (which is likely if they end up posting it randomly in a few days) :\

Books/Fanworks Post is Up!

Wow this post is quiet. I guess everyone's doing their venting in namespace? Or have LJ issues just got that much worse since last year?
