That's all

Well, actually, I'm deep in the mine, working on the first of multiple assignments, but oh well.

Dear recipient

I just hope, that with your comment about not minding crack or a/b/o you meant that you also like cracky a/b/o.

I totally need to orphan this story before reveals.

i defaulted over a month ago, and recently ended up kind of poking at something that would fill one of my own prompts

happily, now that yuletide madness is open i have found someone with a similar request i can treat so at least someone other than myself will enjoy this pairing/fic (i hope)

I am definitely not your recipient, but that sounds like a lot of fun, nonny.

First time on the pinch hit list

(Anonymous)
it feels weird, but then I had my fair share of lackluster gifts in the past, so where's the diffrence.
(Frozen) (Thread)

Re: First time on the pinch hit list

(Anonymous)
the difference is the possibility of awesome treats

She didn't sign up for Yuletide this year, so may not being doing treats, either.

Let's be optimistic. Your pinch hit was grabbed by someone who has an awesome story to tell. :)

I tried to grab a pinch hit earlier, but was too late. I'm still going to write that person a treat. A lot of people who attempt to get a PH do that kind of thing!
(Frozen) (Parent) (Thread)

Yay!

I keep vowing that I'm not going to bother writing anything that's less than a thousand words, but with Madness open so early this year, it's bound to happen. Some ideas (and I get a lot with the big prompt list) just don't merit a thousand words, or kind of cry out for super-short or super-long.

A fic was uploaded for me a day after my pinch hit went out, so I'm wondering if it was originally going to be a treat.

The year I was a pinch hit I got probably the best gift I've ever received in Yuletide.

i'm glad we have the full prompt list this early, because going through the dya letters wasn't doing anything for me

Accent troubles

(Anonymous)
This may be a stupid thing to ask about, but I was wondering if anyone here knows New Jersey? I'm writing a character who speaks with a New Jersey accent (or, I should say, a Noo Joisey accent - I don't know a thing about New Jersey but I'm pretty sure that's an inaccurate stereotype) and I wondered if there is any New Jersey-specific dialect that would get that across? In particular, I'd like to know what kinds of terms of endearment she might use (dear, darling, etc.). Could anyone help me out?

Re: Accent troubles

(Anonymous)
Term of endearment would probably rely on more than just geographic origin. The age, gender, social class, etc. would probably have more effect on which term they'd use.

Because the only specific things I can think of is jimmies vs. sprinkles and the whole sub/hoagie/hero/grinder debate. I think I've heard "asshole" used as a term of endearment most often, but that's probably due to my age, gender, social class...

AAAH ME TOO! I've been slowly going through the latest pinch hits all day, just looking at a couple at a time. One of the very last I looked at was mine! I don't think I've ever been defaulted on before. Tbh... I've heard so many times that being on the pinch hit list means you get treats sooooo now I will be super extra disappointed if I don't get any heh.

How do you do the present-shaking thing to figure out how long your gift is?
(Frozen) (Parent) (Thread)

Re: Ask Coal

(Anonymous)
In the "Search within results" box, put something like "Word count: >1150" and if it keeps showing a fic? Then your fic is longer than that many words. If there are multiple fics in that fandom, check the various boxes for character usage and the like until it only shows one fic, but if you can't be exactly sure which fic is yours, you can at least see what kind of lengths you'll be able to find in that fandom.

Re: Ask Coal

How do hits work on multiple chapter fic on ao3? If I have a two chapter fic and it has two hits does that mean two people have clicked on it or one has read both chapters? Or is there no way to tell?

Re: Accent troubles

(Anonymous)
Ahh, that makes sense. I thought it might be a bit of a silly question, but coming from a place that has many examples of local dialect, I thought I'd ask. :)

I don't want to give too much away but it's hard to put her to a social class... I think she was probably lower middle class in her American origins, but she's rather a self-made figure in Europe. She'd be in her late twenties in the story I'm writing.

Re: Ask Coal

(Anonymous)
It depends on how they've got it set up to load chapters. You can auto-set it to show all chapters at once and then you'd be looking at 2 people, or it could be one person who prefers to click to the next chapter. Additionally, it could have 2 hits from you clicking on it.

I have no idea who you are, coalie, but there were two pinch hits in the very last batch that I wasn't able to grab but am now planning treats for. So who knows! One might be you!!

Jersey anon here! Do you know where in NJ she's from? North Jersey and South Jersey are very different things. Is she from a city (Jersey City, Newark, Trenton, Camden etc) or a suburb? (I'm North Jersey myself.)

Noo Joisey is a real (but exaggerated) accent that leans working class and generally Italian. Don't look to Jersey Shore for accent help! Most of the cast is from Staten Island and have the SI accent.

I don't know about "darling" as an endearment, and "dear" skews older. Honey, sweetheart/sweetie, babe/baby are things I've heard in RL, notning really region specific.

If she's going to the beach, she's going "down the shore."
